Taking care of your monthly bills by yourself is quit a
different situation than managing bills for your family. Being single, you only
have to keep record of what you are spending. When you have a spouse, there is
then the issue of knowing what the other is spending as well. You have to not
only manage what bills you are responsible for but also what your significant other
and potential children are spending or what is being spent on the children.
Good money management is crucial for this situation. As a single person, there are usually not many aspects of your financial situation that make things too complicated, and if so, you can keep them in the forefront of your mind easier. There are basics of food/clothing/ rent and so on. It is easier to keep track of what you spent so that there are no big surprises at the end of the month. If you know you have spent more than you should on one thing, you can keep it in mind and spend less on something else. Being in a family situation brings with it much more complex setting. You still have to manage what you are spending but now there is the consideration of what your spouse is spending as well. This can also bring with it conflicts when each has different spending habits. What one considers an important item/service the other may think of as an unnecessary luxury. Also to consider is that many of the bills roughly become double what you are used to. Generally speaking, eating out will double your costs as will groceries, shoes, and more (although some would argue on the shoes part :-). This is important to consider as you are out spending and as the bills come in. It becomes more important to conclude what items are a requirement and what ones are an extravagant comfort and what ones lye in the middle. The solution for dealing with this is to be wise in transactions with your costs. Determine on a scale, what are absolute requirements, such as the basic essential groceries, paying for your utilities etc. Then ascertain what lye in the intermediate anywhere, such as going out for dinners, extra gadgets, entertainment, etc. Figure out what ones are more important than others to you and your spouse. Recognizing this helps you to put into place a plan for better money management thus keeping debt at bay. Perhaps your problem now is that you are wise to your spending and savings but you are stuck in debt. There are some qualified professional services out there answering any questions you have on debt consolidation and other forms of debt services. They can combine your bills together and lower the payment and interest rate in order to help you secure your financial future. |
